Enchantment in Wakfu
The mechanism of enchantment
We decided that enchantment should be a "luxury" profession in Wakfu. Enchantment begins with a simple idea: you take an existing piece of equipment and break it in order to create new magical runes. These runes are then placed onto items to give them special powers.
The different phases
Enchantment consists of combining resources and blank runes to impregnate them and create magically charged runes. Then you put these charged runes together in order to place them on a piece of equipment.
Dismantling
First, the player has to disassemble a piece of equipment in order to collect bits of runes. Then they put in place the bits that fit together, in order to get blank runes.
Each blank rune has a certain capacity for magical power; it all depends on its quality. There are 6 different types of rune, which are divided into 3 categories:
- Protection runes (armors and shields)
- Combat runes (weapons)
- Equipment runes (any piece of equipment)
Impregnation
Impregnation consists in charging the magical capacity of a rune with the bonus of your choice.
You can choose which bonus to impregnate by transforming a resource into magic charge inside the rune. Each resource tends naturally towards one of the four main elements (earth, water, fire, air). The combination of certain resources will allow you to receive a specific bonus once the impregnation is complete.
For example, in Wakfu, the Strength characteristic is associated with the element Earth. Wheat and mill seeds both tend towards the element Earth. Put them on the same rune and you can unlock an Earth + Earth combo, which will give you a Strength bonus. If you want to have more Strength, you have to increase the quantity of resources in order to reinforce the connection between the two elements.
However, you cannot add an unlimited quantity of bonuses. You have to consider the cost of each bonus and the total capacity of the rune. One point of Strength, or a defensive Earth bonus, won't require the same quantity of capacity points.
For example, let's take a rune with a capacity of 300 points. You would like to add a maximum of force points, which cost 70 capacity points. You can put a maximum of 4 force points onto this rune, and you'll still have 20 capacity points left.
Assembling
Assembling consists in taking an equipment rune and placing it onto a piece of equipment, armor or weapons. Just like the rune, each item has its own maximum magic capacity, which depends on its levels and its other bonuses.
The enchanted item is related to the person, for whom it has been made. This player is the only one who can use the magical bonus. If you want to give the object to another character, you have to break the enchantment.
What will enchantment provide you exactly?
No matter where the items come from (drop or craft), enchantment will be the final step in maximizing their powers. The following list will show you the different powers that you can reach, depending on the origin of the items and the improvements you carry out on them:
- Craft = 75% of power
- Drop = 100% of power
- Drop + Recraft = 125% of power
- Craft + Enchantment = 150 % of power
- Drop + Recraft + Enchantment = 175% of power
The role of competent enchanters will be important, in order to offer the players of Wakfu the opportunity to optimize their equipment at any time.
