Evolving your character in Wakfu
Characteristics
Primary characteristics
You'll remember that in DOFUS, every character had their own series of characteristics, or specific traits that set them apart from the rest. These characteristics had important effects on the way players dealt with their characters.
You'll find the same approach is used in Wakfu as in DOFUS :
- Strength (primary characteristic of the Earth element)
- Agility (primary characteristic of the Air element)
- Intelligence (primary characteristic of the Fire element)
- Chance (primary characteristic of the Water element)
- Wisdom (modifies XP gained)
- Vitality (modifies HP gained)
Players will spend the points they gain each time they level up on improving these six characteristics. Unlike that of Dofus, Wakfu's points system will be based on a different scale (between one and ten level points per char point) which should mean a more diverse and balanced character evolution. It's also important to remember that primary characteristics will no longer have multiple effects - one Strength point will give a corresponding Earth damage bonus, and no more!
The roles occupied by the classes will be much more specific. Not only will Strength points vary in cost for each character class, but bonuses gained from them will differ too.
The characteristic system being used in Wakfu comes from the world of DOFUS and this compatibility means that one day, we will be able to form concrete links between the two games.
Secondary characteristics
There's a whole range of secondary characteristics to discover in Wakfu, too. Here's just a few of them:
- Dodge (escaping close combat)
- Tackle (blocking a char)
- Ferocity (Critical Hits)
- Leadership (number of creatures under your command)
- Prospecting (chances of finding rare objects)
- Willpower (dominates creatures)
These characteristics allow your character to advance more easily. If you specialise in close combat, for example, you'll have to increase your tackling as much as possible.
Some characteristics will automatically increase each time you level up, depending on what class you are. You can also manage your characteristics using your equipment.
Levels and experience
Levelling up
The XP will be displayed in your global gauge and bit by bit, will lead your character to level up.
- With each level gained, your character will receive a certain number of points which you can spend on your primary characteristics.
- A certain percentage of this XP will be allocated to the skills and spells used in combat.
For example, if a Iop kills a creature using Jab three times and Uppercut once, the Iop will gain 1,000 XP in the gauge as well as 10% of that amount (100XP) to be divided 75/25 between the spells 'Jab' and 'Uppercut' respectively.
This simplified example is just to show you the principle behind this system. Things will work differently in-game.
Experience and the evolution of spells
Characters will improve their spells as they gain XP. Knowledge of spells is unlocked following a tree pattern. The level of the spell is in this way increased by its use... the more you use a spell, the more you'll be comfortable with it and the stronger you'll be in that particular branch of the tree.
The number of spell levels required to unlock successive levels of spell branches has been reduced. On the other hand, the mastery of an element within a branch will remain a considerable challenge.
