Wakfu cross-media

The World of Wakfu - Classes - Creatures - Features - FAQ

The principles described in this article are still being developed and may change before the release of the final version of Wakfu. The game is currently available in beta.

Wakfu isn't just an online video game, it's also an entire world made up of Mangas, the tv series, mobile and web services, and plenty of other media. Come and discover the cross-media world of Wakfu in the latest feature!

What is cross-media?

From the beginning, the creaters of Wakfu had a cross-media project in mind. The aim is to develop several converging projects which all revolve around a single universe. Wakfu is one of these projects and is part of this cross-media world.

The aim of this cross-media strategy is to allow players to immerse themselves in the world of Wakfu at any time, whether they are in front of their computer, their TV, their mobile phone or a book! All these different chances to experience Wakfu will mean that players will have a diverse choice of ways to enjoy the game and will have a broad background story and knowledge about the characters while they can concentrate on whichever aspect interests them most.

The cross-media world

  • The MMORPG: 1,000 years after DOFUS, ths islands of Wakfu are just waiting for players to explore them. You'll find the same 12 classes as in DOFUS as well as an ongoing world and autonomous ecosystem.
  • Console games: You'll soon be able play Wakfu on your Xbox. On Xbox Live Arcade, gamers will play a game which takes place many years before DOFUS.
  • Mangas and comics: The first Manga DOFUS Quest 1: Eniripsa's Hands (currently available in french) will be released at the beginning of July exclusively for the Japan Expo. It will stick to the DOFUS story and will deal with the period between DOFUS and Wakfu, 1,000 years later.
  • Wakfu the TV series :The TV series is based on the same legend as the MMORPG and recounts the stories of the game's heroes. They live in a world which has been submerged by Ogrest's destructive powers.
  • The webisodes: The webisodes will introduce different characters from the TV series over the internet.
  • Roaming: The mobile service will bring the MMORPG experience to your mobile. You'll be able to view your character or even extend your subscription using your telephone.
  • Wakfu TCG (Trading Card Game): The world of Wakfu will be available as a collectable card game with all the same features as the game: drops, combat, professions, creature families and heroes. The card will be decorated with exclusive images.
  • Web community: You'll have all the latest news and screenshots on the Wakfu game site, and the forum is there if you ever have something to say.
  • Merchandise: Products from the world of Wakfu, faithful to the world of Wakfu.

Each and every product is unique in the world of Wakfu: so even if you just watch the TV show and don't play the game or if you prefer to stick to the Xbox , you'll be able to enjoy any element to the full.

At the same time, all elements of the cross-media world will be interrelated, so players will be free to pick and choose in order to form their own personal experience.

Real interaction

The animated TV show and the MMORPG

There will be many common points between the animated TV show and the MMO... the adventures of the heroes from the TV series will have an impact on the MMO and vice versa.

For example, if an episode from the series shows one of the heroes in a particular area, you'll be able to find this place in the MMO so as to find objects and areas that you wouldn't have known about if you had not seen the episode.

In an episode from the TV show, one of the characters will create a recipe. At this point, the recipe will come into effect in the game.

The TV series can also inspire your adventures in the world of Wakfu, but remember, you don't have to watch it to play the MMO successfully. To get a better understanding of the links between the TV show and MMO, have a look at the Wakfu cross-média trailer.

It is difficult to finalise any of these ideas until we have players to test them:

  • Here at Ankama, we do things because they interest us. Every element will be complete independent of every other element... How will players realise that there is a wider group of products which form the global experience if they are not obliged to partake in them all?
